Mr. Matney is in court almost daily defending serious traffic cases. He regularly participates in seminars and workshops that address traffic defense. Attorney Matney is a member of the National College for DUI Defense (NCDD) and the Virginia State Bar, where he is a member of the Criminal Defense section. He received a Certificate of Competency in the Basic Science of Evidential Breath Alcohol Testing from the manufacturer of the BAC DataMaster. Most recently, he participated in the NCDD's 2009 Winter Session and the 2009 Summer training held at Harvard Law School.

Mr. Matney received his law degree in 1992 from the Marshall-Wythe School of Law at the College of William and Mary. Prior to his legal training, Mr. Matney received his B.A. degree in 1989 from The American University in Washington, D.C. The American University awarded him the Presidential Scholarship all four years while he majored in International Studies and minored in Business Administration and French. After law school, Mr. Matney graduated Summa Cum Laude in 2005 from Evangel Theological Seminary in Harrisonburg, VA, receiving his Master of Divinity Degree.

Mr. Matney is an allied attorney of the Alliance Defense Fund. He has provided over 150 hours of volunteer legal services to ministries and other special needs since 2008.
